​ABOUT THE WAITLIST

We have a growing list of youth who have reached out to be paired with a mentor. It is our goal at Bakersfield Angels to match each of these youth with a caring volunteer who will provide radical, relational support to help them navigate life as they move into adulthood. Check out just a few of our amazing youth below and reach out with any questions about how you can get involved!

 Youth #1: Located in 93306
“T” is a 17-year-old senior who loves sports and writing music (major R&B fan). His goals are to graduate, play football at BC, and possibly join the Navy to do underwater welding. His ideal mentor match is a younger hispanic male who is a non-judgmental, trusting, loyal, respectful, athletic, lover of music.

Youth #2: Located in 93309
“J” is a 16-year-old with autism who enjoys reading, learning new things, watching animated movies, playing video games, and working out. He dreams of going into the military, or becoming a tow truck driver someday. He would like a male, active mentor who will work out with him and support his interests.


Youth #3: Located in 93311
“M” is a 17-year-old independent study high school student. He describes himself as a laid back, sensitive jokester, who likes to play pool, listen to rap and country music, and work out. His goals include graduating high school, getting a driver’s license, living independently, and being able to financially support himself. He would like a younger male mentor who can give good advice about life, money, and relationships.


Youth #4: Located in 93307
“M” is a 14-year-old 8th grader who loves sports--basketball and track are his favs. He describes himself as someone who is always up for a challenge. Future goals include improving his grades, becoming a professional basketball player, rapper or barber. He desires a mentor who is athletic, easy to talk to, fun, and will have deep conversations. 

Youth #5: Located in 93309
 “L” is a 14-year-old 8th grader. He loves history, watching tv, anime, playing video games, and being outdoors. He is unsure of his goals or future interests. He is very excited to be matched with a mentor who will be a friend, take him on outings, and teach him new things.

Youth #6: Located in 93311
 “C” is a 14-year-old high school freshman. He loves hanging out with friends, playing basketball, writing, drawing, taking walks, and helping others. He dreams of becoming a lawyer or detective someday. His ideal mentor is funny, politically independent, open minded, and willing to have intellectual conversations.

 ​Youth #7: Located in 93306
 “V” is an intelligent and kind 20-year-old mama of a newborn. She enjoys R+B music and once loved to run at the bluffs and play soccer. Her goals are to improve her physical health, go back to school to become a nursing assistant, get a driver’s license, and reunify with her 3-year-old son who is currently in care. She would like a mentor who is knowledgeable, funny, talkative, not overbearing--someone from whom she can glean wisdom.

Youth #8: Located in 93314
“R” is a 16-year-old junior who enjoys playing football, running, weightlifting, crime shows, and cars. He dreams of becoming a mechanic or crime scene investigator someday. He would love a younger, talkative, male mentor who is into sports. 


Youth #9: Located in Shafter
“A” is a friendly and chatty 12-year-old 7th grader. He likes comics, gaming, and everything Marvel. He dreams of becoming a police officer someday. He would like a mentor who can help him learn to how to cook, better his social skills, and help him find ways to manage his aggressive behaviors.


Youth #10: Located in 93309
“J” is a 14-year-old, talkative freshman. He loves dancing, TikTok, cooking, and animals, and dreams of one day becoming a heart surgeon. He desires an LGBTQ friendly, younger female mentor who likes to talk, go out to eat and take drives.

Youth #11: Located in 93307 “T” is a 16-year-old high school student who likes to play football, play Roblox, and listen to indie, oldies, and classic rock music. He is especially interested in astrology. His goals are to graduate and one day become a mechanic. He desires a mentor who is honest and will take him to do outside activities. 

Youth #12: Located in 93301 
“L” is an 18-year-old soon to be mama. She enjoys walking, shopping, drawing, music, and animals. Future goals include graduating from high school, moving into an apartment, and getting a job with animals. She would like a mentor who is kind, non-judgmental and will support her in being a healthy mom for her new baby.


Youth #13: Located in 93307
“B” is a 14-year-old high school freshman. He likes to play football and basketball, listen to music, and rollerblade. He dreams of owning his own business and living in Las Vegas one day. He would like a younger black mentor who is calm and not too loud. 

Youth #14: Located in 93311
“D” is a 14-year-old freshman in high school. He enjoys playing football and basketball, playing video games, and building sets for plays at school. He dreams of becoming a mechanical engineer. He desires a younger, chill, and athletic mentor.

Youth #15: Located in 93301
“N” is a 17-year-old senior. She loves to read, write, go to the gym, and eat out. Her goals are to move into an apartment at 18, graduate high school, attend BC, and get a job and a driver’s license. She would like a mentor who is knowledgeable, well-rounded, a good listener, and who has experienced some difficulties in life. 

Youth #16: Located in 93311
“B” is a 14-year-old 9th grader who loves to play video games. His future goals include improving his grades, becoming a pilot and going skydiving. He would also like to get a job so he can save money to buy a computer. His best mentor match is someone who is supportive and encouraging, will help him explore his interests and improve his social skills.

Youth #17: Located in 93311
 “P” is a 13-year-old 7th grader who loves basketball but is interested in playing football next year. He enjoys gaming and being outdoors. He dreams of playing in the NFL or becoming a construction worker one day. He would like a nice mentor who wants to do fun things with him. 

Youth #18: Located in 93308
“N” is an 11-year-old 5th grader who enjoys reading, arts and crafts, anime, soccer, basketball, and animals. She dreams of becoming a veterinarian one day. She would love a smart, young, active, mentor.

Youth #19: Located in 93313
"C" is a 12-year-old 6th grader who loves to play with friends, play games, build legos, do crafts, and hang with his dog. He is unsure of his goals or future dreams. He would love mentor who will play games with him and help him increase his confidence and communication skills.

Youth #20: Located in 93314
​"D" is a 16-year-old super active sophomore who loves basketball, volleyball, being outdoors, and drawing. She dreams of going into the military or becoming a probation officer one day and would like to get a part-time job.  She desires an active mentor who will encourage her in her dreams.

Youth #21: Located in 93313
"I" is a 16-year-old high school junior who enjoys playing classical piano, reading, weightlifting, and watching horror movies. His goals are to graduate high school, attend college to study music, and fix up an old car that he has. His ideal mentor is an honest, and consistent male with which he can bond over old music and car shows.
